Preparing Your Air Conditioning Unit for Summer
Written by deNovo / April 26, 2017
Preparing your air conditioning unit for summer is a critical step in getting the most from your HVAC system. These preparations help you save energy and ensure your unit will continue working it’s best throughout the entire season. You don’t want to get caught in the middle of July with no air!
To keep your unit running optimally all summer, perform these three tasks this spring:
1. Wash Exterior of Unit
Using a hose, carefully remove dirt and grime from the fin area of your air conditioning unit. Avoid bending the fins of the air conditioner while cleaning, as that can cause damage within the coils of the unit and affect the performance of your AC. If you have hard-to-remove dirt on your unit, use a mild mixture of soap and water.
2. Change System Filter
Change the system filter of your AC unit at least once a month, making sure to check it often. A dirty filter can create a number of issues for you, including less efficient air flow and higher energy bills.
3. Have Your Unit Inspected
Before the start of summer, have your AC unit inspected by a professional and serviced, if needed. A yearly inspection helps prolong the life of your unit and keeps it running efficiently.
