How much does drain cleaning cost?

Drain cleaning is one of the more affordable plumbing services, and the range mostly depends on which line is clogged and how bad it is. These are typical Midwest market ranges, not Hanna quotes; since our techs bill hourly with no quotas, an easy clog simply costs less than a stubborn one.

What moves the number

Which drain is clogged

A kitchen sink or tub line is quicker to clear than the main sewer line. Main line work uses bigger equipment, takes longer, and sits at the top of the range.

Cause of the clog

Grease, hair, and soap clear readily with a cable. Tree roots in an older clay sewer lateral, common in established Marion and Cedar Rapids neighborhoods, take more time and may point to a bigger conversation about the pipe itself.

Access

A line with a good cleanout is faster to work on than one where we have to pull a toilet or go through a roof vent. Homes short on cleanouts pay a little more in time, and adding one can save money on every future call.

Cable vs. hydro jetting

Cabling punches through the blockage; hydro jetting scours the whole pipe clean and typically runs $350 to $900. Jetting is worth it for lines that keep clogging after routine cabling, not for a first-time hair clog.

Camera inspection

A camera run, often $150 to $350 as an add-on, shows exactly what and where the problem is. On repeat clogs or root intrusion it is the honest next step before spending anything on repairs.

Good to know

  • Hourly billing with no quotas means a 45-minute clog costs you 45 minutes, not a flat-rate package.
  • Chemical drain openers can damage older pipes and make the eventual professional cleaning nastier; a $10 hair tool handles most tub clogs.
  • Roots in the line are seasonal here; Iowa's wet springs push roots toward the moisture in old clay joints.
  • If every drain in the house is slow at once, the problem is the main line, not the fixtures; that changes the approach.

Why a Hanna number is a real number

Our techs are paid by the hour — no quotas — so the estimate you get reflects the work your home actually needs, not a sales target. You'll understand the pricing structure before anyone arrives.

Quick answers

My drain clogs every few months. Why?

Repeat clogs in the same line usually mean roots, a belly in the pipe, or heavy scale, not bad luck. A camera inspection tells you which, so you stop paying for the same fix.

Do you clean drains at night or on weekends?

Yes. A sewage backup does not keep business hours, and neither does our 24/7 emergency service.

Is hydro jetting safe for old pipes?

On sound pipe, yes. On badly deteriorated clay or Orangeburg, no, which is why we camera questionable lines before jetting them.

One more thing

Cold pipe or cold house — we fix both.

One call gets a licensed Hanna tech to your door — hourly pricing you understand before we arrive, free estimates on work over $500, and 24/7 emergency service.
