Why the local water changes the answer
Hard water is the number-one killer of Moen cartridges: at Marion's 18–20 grains, calcium scores the cartridge seals (drips), calcifies aerators (weak flow) and freezes shower cartridges in their sleeves. The good news is Moen repairs are cheap and fast when the water is soft — which is exactly why we talk softening with every fixture-heavy remodel in the very-hard towns.

Manufacturer coverage
Most Moen faucets and showerheads carry a Lifetime Limited Warranty for the original homeowner — covering leaks, drips and finish defects — with 5-year terms for commercial use and electronic components. The warranty excludes labor and damage from improper installation, and Moen's fine print doesn't promise coverage for hard-water mineral damage (though their customer service is famously generous with replacement cartridges).

Why a pro install protects it
Moen's warranty covers parts, never labor — and excludes damage from improper installation. A seized shower cartridge in a 30-year-old valve is a classic call-a-pro job: pulled wrong, it takes the valve body and a chunk of wall with it. My Moen faucet is dripping — repair or replace?
Usually repair. Nine times out of ten a dripping Moen needs a cartridge, and Moen's lifetime warranty means the part is often free from Moen for the original homeowner. We carry common Moen cartridges on the truck, so it's typically a single quick visit.
Why is the flow from my Moen faucet getting weak?
In Marion, Hiawatha and the well towns, it's almost always scale in the aerator or the cartridge inlet — 18–20 grain water plugs them steadily. Cleaning or swapping the aerator restores flow; a softener stops it from coming back.
Can you fix a Moen shower valve without opening the wall?
Usually yes. Moen's shower valves are designed to be serviced from the front — cartridge out, cartridge in — as long as the extraction goes carefully. That's the part worth hiring out on an older valve.
